Tropical North Rainforest

posted by flinche

Where the rainforest meets the reef is the best way to describe the Tropical North.
Magnificent heritage listed rainforests stretch from the hinterlands down to the golden sands
of the picture perfect, palm lined beaches.

The rooftop canopy of the rainforest allow smaller species of plant life to grow, protected from
the harsh tropical sun and keeping the lower levels of the rainforest in a damp, humid environment.
The summer months provide heavy tropical rains, sometimes cyclonic conditions, to keep the rainforest
alive and well. The rainforests have been growing for well over 100million years.

Under the rainforest canopy a host of animal life includes many varieties of insects, birds,
mammals, reptiles and amphibians. The rainforests are home to over thousands of plant species including
trees, vines, palms, ferns, epiphytes. Unknown plants and animal species are still
being discovered to this day.

Many crystal clear rivers flow through deep gorges providing an oppurtunity to cool of from the
humid conditions. Very often you can see fish and eels swimming around with you.

You could easily spend a week bushwalking, birdwatching and being amazed at the awesome sights of
the rainforest.

Zambia What An Amazing Country

posted by flinche

When you travel abroad, especially far away from home you want to have peace of mind. The same applies if youand#8217;re on an African safari. If your desire is to meet friendly, warm people then travel to Africaand#8217;s peace haven, Zambia. In Zambia youand#8217;ll find that which you most desire, the warm African welcome.
Peace, stability and friendliness describe Zambia. It is a country incredibly endowed with natural resources, the heritage of a natural safari country. Just imagine these amazing sites:
1. The Victoria Falls, one of the worldand#8217;s most spectacular waterfalls, is considered the worldand#8217;s largest curtain of falling water. It measures 1701 metres wide and plunges down to 111 metres. The torrent of water plunging over a steep cliff creates a deafening roar and sends up billows of spray that can be seen 30km (19 mi) away. Thus the local people have called it Mosi-oa-Tunya, meaning and#8220;the smoke that thunders.and#8221;
2. The wild untamed Zambezi River. From its source at Kalene Hills to its mouth at the Indian Ocean the Zambezi measures a whopping 3,540 kilometres. And 2,572km is in Zambia.
Zambezi River passes through changing sceneries. The wild exciting Barote Flood Plain the site of the colourful Kuomboka ceremony by the Lozi people, the violent torrent at the Victoria Falls and the 122m deep Batoka Gorge cut by the river, the serene Lake Kariba behind the hydroelectric dam. And this lake has a great history. Finally the wide Lower Zambezi surrounded by wild game.
3. Add to your travel itinerary the Nchanga Open Pit one of the largest open cast mines in the world but the largest in Africa. Operations started in 1957 and today it measures 4,700m long, 2,400m wide and bottoms up at 335m. Zambiaand#8217;s major economic activity still remains copper mining.
4. Visit the 19 national parks and 34 game management areas. All these constitute 30 percent of the 752614sq km of Zambia. The management areas buffer the game parks and the parks are strategically located throughout the country.
5. The unbelievable yet fascinating wildlife in pristine wilderness. The Zambian national parks are considered to have the largest concentration of game in the world. The variety of animal species is wide with over 202 mammals that include the Big Five: lion, giraffe, leopard, rhino and elephant.
Annually there is a wildebeest migration in the Liuwa Park. Take a look and see the endemic red and black lechwe antelopes in the Kafue Fats at Lochinvar, as well as the Busanga and Bangweulu Plains. Birding is popular in all game parks but Lochinvar is Zambiaand#8217;s prime birds sanctuary. Meet the crested cranes, saddle-bill storks, egrets, wood ibis, vultures and the rare shoebill stork.
6. Travel to Livingstone town near the majestic, awe-inspiring Victoria Falls now accepted as the southern African Adventure Centre. Here you can choose any adventure of your choice: White water river-rafting, bungi jumping, river boarding, skiing, fishing, abseiling, 4×4 off high way driving, elephant back safari, river safari, micro-light and helicopter flights over the Victoria Falls.
Livingstone is a town of three museums; one is Zambiaand#8217;s prime museum, another is a railway museum and then there is the Victoria Falls field museum. Take a detour and visit a tribal village. Choose your accommodation from the many theme-designed hotels and lodges on the banks of the Zambezi.
7. The Zambian weather is mild and pleasant despite the country being in the tropics. The high altitude at between 1200m and 1500m above sea level ensures that. There are three distinct seasons; the cool and dry season between April and August, the dry and warm between September and November and the warmer and wet season between December and March. However, the most popular time to visit is during the cool and dry winter season between April and August. These are warm crisp days and cool nights!
Zambia is beckoning you! The pristine wilderness, the African sunsets, the changing landscapes and natural habitat and the warm Zambian welcome of its friendly people. All these make your travel to Zambia a pleasant destination in African travel. Itand#8217;s a safari visit youand#8217;ll treasure forever.
and#8230;And youand#8217;ll never forget to exclaimand#8221; what indeed an amazing countryand#8221;

Top Tourist Attractions In Paris

posted by flinche

If you are visiting Paris for the first time, you might be overwhelmed when planning your itinerary and deciding which attractions to visit and in what order. Let’s take a look at the top attractions in Paris that are a must see when planning your visit.
First you’ll want to visit the Eiffel Tower. This icon of Paris is located at Eiffel Tower Champs de Mars. Admission to the tower is 10,70 . The phone number is 33 (0) 1 44 11 23 23. The Eiffel Tower was built in 1899 and was originally supposed to be a temporary symbol for the 1899 World’s Fair. If you really want to be “wowed” by this structure, visit it in the evening, as the lights of Paris are a breath taking view from the top floor. The tower includes restaurants and shopping. Tickets to the second floor and the top floor can be purchased at the information office at the base of the tower. Expect to wait for the elevator and expect to be a little confused by its configuration. Even with these slight inconveniences, a trip to Paris wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the magnificent Paris icon - the Eiffel Tower.
After visiting the Eiffel Tower, your next stop in Paris should be the Muse du Louvre. Admission is 8,50 euros. The phone number is +33 1 40 20 53 17. You may want to plan to visit the Louvre more than once during your trip, as it is impossible to see the entire 30,000 piece collection in the world’s largest museum. The Louvre was built in 1200 and in the 1500s became the royal family’s palace. The Louvre was opened as a museum in 1793. In the 1980s, glass pyramids were built to serve as the entrance and are a fantastic sight. Once inside the museum, be sure to stop at the information desk first to pick up a free map and to get the schedule of the 90 minute guided tours being offered that day. The museum can be confusing even with the map and a guided tour is recommended. The Louvre is broken up into three wings: Richelieu, Sully and Denon. Within these three wings, the museum is then divided into nine collections: the History of the Louvre and Medieval Louvre, Oriental Antiquities, Arts os Islam, Egyptian Antiquities, Sculptures, Objects d’art, Paintings, Prints and Drawings, and Arts of Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas. Photography is allowed at the museum so don’t forget your camera.
The next stop on your tour of Paris, France should be the Notre Dame Cathedrale located at 6 place du Parvis Notre-Dame. The Cathedrale Notre-Dame was built in 1163 but was not completed until the 14 th century. This is a very historical sight in Paris. Napoleon crowned himself emperor here and General de Gaulle gave thanks here when the Germans freed Paris. One thing to be wary of is that the Cathedrale is under restoration construction and part of it may be unobservable.
Next on the tour is Basilique du Sacre-Coeur located at 35, rue du Chevalier-de-la-Barre. The phone number is +33 1 53 41 89 00. The main reason for visiting this church that sits atop a large hill just past Montmarte’s main square is to take in the amazing view of Paris that this location offers. While in the area be sure to walk around the streets of Montmartre’s Place du Tertre. It is almost as if this area has been frozen in time and remains very similar to the time when Van Gogh resided here.

Stockholm is not as big and famous as Paris, London or New York. Still it is regarded as one of the most beautiful capitals in the world. The Swedish city captures the heart of every visitor.
Arriving in Stockholm is already something special. From your plane you will see the water, the immense green areas, the fourteen islands with the colorful buildings that make up Stockholm ….. You are in a holiday mood even before you set your first step on Swedish ground.
Located between the lake Malaren and the Baltic Sea, Stockholm is sometimes called the Venice of the North. And, indeed, there is water everywhere. However, you don’t need a gondola to get around. An extensive bus and subway network takes you everywhere.
Stockholm and Sweden don’t make the news regularly. Sweden is a sparsely populated, but rich country and the nine million Swedes lead a wealthy calm life. They are modest, helpful, tolerant, and speak excellent English - which makes Stockholm even more pleasant to visit.
The city is remarkably clean. It’s a very safe place too. Swedish crime figures are among the lowest in the world.
Stockholm has a rich history and many points of interests. Take in walk in Gamla Stan, the old town centre with its medieval streets, well-preserved houses and royal palace. Visit the world’s first open-air museum Skansen, which is a joy even if you are not a museum fan. Or make a boat trip in the archipelago: no less than 24,000 islands and rocks create majestic sceneries you will never forget.
But even modern Stockholm has a lot to offer. Nightlife in the Swedish capital is hip, the Scandinavian design goods in shops are hard to resist, and the once controversial business district around Sergels Torg becomes one of the most vibrant parts of town in summer.
Stockholm mixes the latest trends and developments with ancient Nordic culture and tradition, located in an area with an almost magic natural charm. It’s truly one of the world’s most beautiful capitals.

Stay Healthy When You Travel

posted by flinche

The concept of budget adventure travel includes a lot of wonderful experiences, but one adventure you definitely do not want to have when you travel is getting sick. Not only are you far from your family doctor or your mother’s trusty chicken soup recipe; the very fact that you are in a foreign locale exposes you to allergies, germs, food and water you have no immunity to.
Here are a few health tips to either help you avoid sickness or help you cope with it once it befalls you:
–Wash your hands repeatedly throughout the day. This is the same advice you get at home during the winter flu season for good reason. Most germs are spread by contact; so the more often you wash your hands the less contact you will have.
–Get your immunization shots before you leave. Find out from the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta what shots are recommended for traveling in what country.
–Get in shape before your trip. Start walking several weeks before your vacation. If your trip will involve just average sightseeing, your objective should be to be able to walk 3 to 5 miles without undue exhaustion. Face it; vacationing involves more walking than you ordinarily do at home, so build your fitness level so you can tolerate the increased activity.
–Treat cuts and sores immediately. Remember you are exposed to germs and conditions unlike what your body is used to at home.
–Don’t drink the local water unless you are absolutely sure it is safe to drink. Even in advanced societies, the water is just different from what your body is used to. Fortunately, bottled water is much more common around the world than it was just a few years ago. Stock up.
–Maintain high levels of cleanliness. Taking frequent showers and changing into clean clothing not only feels good, it is good for you. This is especially true in hotter climates.
–Bring along vitamins, bottled water and peanut butter. The first two are self explanatory, the latter is a tip passed onto me by a well-traveled missionary who spent a lot of time in really (I mean REALLY) out of the way places. He found that every place had some sort of bread he could eat along with peanut butter if he just couldn’t eat most of the local food. He also recommended bringing a good supply of toilet paper, but I am presuming you aren’t going into places so remote that will be a necessity.
–Carry medical identification if you have allergies or reoccurring ailments.
–Protect yourself from biting insects. This is especially true in tropical climates. Not only should you bring insect repellent, be sure to take practical precautions like avoiding stagnant water, wear long sleeve shirts and tuck pants legs into socks if you are going into a place where biting insects are a particularly bad problem.
–Keep well rested. This is often very hard to do on a vacation you are paying good money for, but it will save you all kinds of problems later. Rest up from initial jet lag and take naps if you are staying out late at night. Your body can endure a lot if it has enough rest.
–Bring along a basic first aid kit and common over the counter medicines. There is always a good chance of getting a headache, indigestion, athlete’s foot etc. So be prepared.

Treasure In The Andes

posted by flinche

I awoke to strange surroundings, my first view of the plaster-peeling room in which I had spent the night being afforded by the early-morning sunrise on the Bolivian Altiplano. After arriving near midnight in the frigid darkness of the high desert, my thoughts had been only of how quickly I could unpack my sleeping bag and crawl in. Now as I peered out of the window, it became apparent that I was in a quadrille, the famous architectural style of squares-within-a-square that is a hallmark of the former Spanish Colonial Empire from California to South America. My “room” consisted of a small shack, which with a series of other small, straw-thatched, adobe huts, defined the walls around a central courtyard paved with flagstones. There was no heat source, and thus my morning dressing routine required only that I emerge from my sleeping bag, it having been too cold to consider removing my several layers of clothing the previous night.
The courtyard upon which I gazed had been the home of a Polish mining engineer who came to seek his fortune in the fabled land of the Inca, drawn, as many before him, by stories of fabulous wealth. The first reports of silver to reach the Spanish Colonial authorities came from a Spanish priest in 1537, although the Inca had undoubtedly extracted the precious metal for their own use before that. I had also come to seek my fortune in this place, not by extracting tons of silver ore, but by unraveling the geological history as a subject of thesis research. In fact, I was living my dream of working as an exploration geologist amid remote, rugged surroundings, as the only Norteamericano for a hundred, and probably three hundred, miles.
I exited the courtyard through a low wooden door that represented the only means of egress, and found myself on a narrow, cobblestone street bounded by the adobe walls of other quadrilles. The stygian darkness that accompanied my arrival the previous night had concealed the size of the town. I trudged up the street, panting for breath in the thin, 12,000-foot air. Upon reaching the outskirts of the village, which required only a few minutes, I assailed a ridge and, upon reaching the crest, took in what the view afforded. I surveyed a desolate landscape devoid of trees or vegetation, save for the small, wind-worn tufts of spiked grass that dotted the hillsides. The Bolivian Altiplano stretched to the horizon in all directions, broken only by jagged mountains that floated in a shimmering, salt-tinged mirage in the distance. The bright blue sky similarly stretched everywhere to the horizon, unblemished by the smallest cloud, until merging with land in the parallax of distance. The blazing white sun constituted the sole occupant of the sky, and although its rays burned my skin and faded my clothes within days, no warmth seemed to emanate from that orb. Instead, the biting wind tore through my layers of clothes, chilling me even as I was being sunburned. The thin air, lack of vegetation to provide perspective of distance, the expanse of blue sky, and blazing sun combined to induce a detached, dreamlike state of near-hypoxia in which concepts of distance and time ceased to have meaning.
The village below was laid out in a grid, consisting of four streets by five streets, and apparently little changed since the 16th Century. There was no electricity, no running water, and no source of heat except bundles of mesquite acquired at some remote location. The source of water that was available was frozen except for two hours in the afternoon. A haze of mesquite smoke hung over the village, nestled in a shallow valley within a larger depression. The village appeared to have some natural fortification, hidden by a ring of volcanic hills. The valley breached the ring of hills along a fault zone, which fractured the rock into three giant spires. In local lore, these three great rock spires were known as Tres Gigantes, or the Three Giants, and appeared in pictures with the patron saint of the town. Who knows but that the founding saint, Saint Christopher, might have been the same Spanish priest that first reported the presence of silver to the outside world?
The surrounding hills were white, the volcanic rock having been altered to the consistency of powdered sugar by acidic solutions. But rather than tasting sweet like sugar, the powdery rock was alkaline, like corroded battery cables. Far from being associated with the feelings of defeat and failure evinced by a dead battery, this natural acid-bleached rock constituted the bulk of the silver resource at the site and was a source of great excitement. The countless miners who toiled to wrest high-grade ore from wide silver veins would have found it impossible to recognize this as silver ore. How ironic that for centuries, miners had removed silver ore from the district until all thought it exhausted, when in fact the vast bulk of silver occurred in this white, crumbly rock, unseen to the naked eye. As often occurs in life, great treasure may lie at our very feet if only we could but recognize it.

Choosing The East Coast To Go On Vacation

posted by flinche

Are you planning to go on vacations? Have you ever considered taking a road trip to the east coast of the United States? If you haven’t, you should, because this part of America offers a great variety of activities that you and your family can join to have a very good time. You should decide what to do depending on how much time you have. You can choose to drive all the way along the entirecoast or, if you do not have much time, you should pick a particular area you are interest to visit and explore it in detail. Of course, always study what the different areas have to offer in food, entertainment and accommodation before starting to drive. If you plan your vacation properly, for sure you will spend a great time traveling along the Atlantic shoreline.
If you plan to begin your vacation in the south, bear in mind that Florida can and will maintain you occupied for more than a few days. This is because Florida has a long coastline and many interesting activities to do. You and your family can have a good time visiting the various amusement parks, and enjoying the beach climate that is one of the best. Then you have to keep going and for sure you will not skip Savannah, Georgia, the state’s oldest city, where you can go to the historical Savannah River and to several historical colonial sites. It is a city you should not avoid because its colorful old houses and its southern charm are unforgettable.
Then you should turn to Charleston, South Carolina, a city you cannot avoid. It s a city very similar to Savannah in its architecture but it also has its own interesting things, such as the Folly Beach and some of the region’s best seafood restaurants. After Charleston, the trip can continue to the city Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, on the outer banks of the state. This city offers you a variety of activities, included museums recording the Wright Brothers’ first flight, where you can place yourself in the path where they made history.
Are you interested in politics? If this is your case, you should stop in Washington, D.C. Because there you can visit the famous White House, the Supreme Court and the U.S. Capitol building, apart from the great number of museums of which the most important are the Museum of Natural History and the Smithsonian. Another place you cannot avoid visiting is the National Gallery, especially if you are interested in art. Here you will find famous paintings from not only American but also foreign artists.
All the way up to the city of New York you will be appreciating the beautiful American rural landscape. For example you will drive past the nice state of Delaware where you will be delighted by seeing the wonderful farmland and the old farmhouses in that great rural landscape. Remember to take the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel when you drive along Chesapeake Bay. It is an unforgettable twenty-six mile toll highway stretching across the superb waterway. And if you are feeling tired, there is a picturesque restaurant and rest area with a dock halfway through the twenty-six miles where you can feel as if you are floating in the heart of the ocean surrounded by countless miles of water.
As soon as you enter New Jersey, you will soon start feeling the effects of the looming New York City destination. A lot of hotels and slightly shady establishments will start appearing in your way, as you get closer to New York. And if you go even further you will see one of the greatest sights in the globe: the Manhattan skyline. Getting nearer the city you will start appreciating the surrealism of the buildings as if they were planted in the ocean and were growing skywards like a tree would do. If you make your own vacation plan do not forget including New York City at night because of its glowing magnificence.
If you do not have enough time, plan your vacation carefully so as to include at least a few days to go around the city. Some may think that it is rather overwhelming, nut it is a city you have to visit if you are near it. It is a very big city where you can find anything you are looking for. You can find a great variety of food, clothing, activity or music, what makes it the ultimate educational, cultural, and shopping experience. What can be better then finishing your vacation in one of the more beautiful cities in the world: New York?

Maybe until now you wouldn’t know that I make part of my living by writing about the city of Rome, its people, passions, food, sport, history and culture. In fact, I own a web site called Lets-Travel-Rome.com, which kinda happened by happy accident after I visited this great city with my Wife - one anniversary, some time ago.
This is a city where some of the best times can be found by just getting out there, and exploring for yourself. It can be great fun to just wander the streets of the Eternal City, but I also recommend that visitors try some Rome guided tours to add something special and memorable to any visit.
For starters, now it’s possible to take in the Art, History and Religion of Rome in one day! A trip to Rome is incomplete without visiting the Vatican Museum and learning about Christian Rome. Marvel at the magnificent beauty of the Sistine Chapel before venturing out to explore the ancient catacombs. You have the option to end your tour with a step back in time to become a part of Roman history in the amazing Time Line Tour.
Can you imagine a beautiful evening tour that takes you from the floodlit ruins of ancient and imperial Rome (The Pantheon and the Colosseum) to the magnificent piazzas and fountains designed by the artists Bernini and Michelangelo, to the home of the Catholic Church, St Peters. At the Trevi Fountain, throw your coin into the water to ensure your return.
Or how about this.. Experience the wonder of the Vatican on this fascinating walking tour and explore its history and beauty. Your native English-speaking guide will share with you the best of the Vatican, including the lesser known spots and you will gain a broad understanding of this unique place.
If you want something more contemporary, ride the time machine and discover the amazing 2750 year history of Rome. Take a trip back in time into ancient Roman history up to present day. This tour includes a one hour show with high-tech virtual projections of the most famous Roman monuments. Rome will never look the same !
Maybe you would prefer to discover Rome and its famous landmarks aboard a deluxe two hour dinner cruise, which includes outstanding Italian cuisine. Witness the breathtaking Eternal City by sailing down the River Tiber… a spectacular way to see Rome or celebrate a special occasion. The romantic strains of music begin the moment the boats casts off.
Or how about meeting a local dignitary during your Rome guided tour. During one unusual visit you can be in the presence of Beatrice Cenci, Donna Olimpia, Count Cagliostro’s wife and the beautiful Costanza De Cupis. A fascinating walk in Ponte quarter where it is possible to learn strange and mysterious histories of ancient Rome with an evocative atmosphere. This walking tour will take you through Navona Square, Via del Governo Vecchio, Ponte Sant’ Angelo and Piazza Farnese.
Why book ahead for our Rome guided tours?.. Well, here are my thoughts:
* These popular tours sell out well in advance! Don’t be disappointed!
* Reduce stress! Don’t waste time haggling with the hotel concierge.
* Lock in your price! Currency dips and price hikes won’t effect you.
* Save vacation time! Plan and book now, not when you’re there.
* Balance your vacation budget! Charge tours on this month’s credit card bill.
You can even save time and money and book your airport transfer services before you go! You can use a shuttle service that will take you from Rome’s Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport to your Rome Hotel, without the hassle of picking up a rental car, negotiating unfamiliar traffic and maps. Take the easy way - and book this efficient service online now and save time at your destination. And while you’re there, check out the other Rome guided tours mentioned above.
As an extra resource for readers, I have posted this article onto my website, and provided quick links to these, and many other, great tours.

I hope you’ll agree that these special Rome guided tours offer real value, and I know that you’ll return home with some special memories of your stay in the Eternal City.
Best wishes for a great trip,

Turbulence Or Smooth Ride You Decide

posted by flinche

Why is it that 2 people can use the same airport, the same airline and even be on the exact same flight, and have 2 totally different stories about their trip?
Is it all about attitude? Well…sort of.
It’s about our expectations and is influenced by visualization. We have a vision of what we will be experiencing, whether we are conscious of it or not.
Trainers and Coaches talk about a process of visualizing the end result, as you would desire it to happen. They suggest you use this process when preparing for meetings, sales presentations and other activities, whereby one outcome is preferred over another.
That vision absolutely does affect the outcome. Ask any athlete and they will tell you.
Athletes have used visualizing techniques for years. That is what you observe them doing when you see them standing and focusing on their target, in an almost trance-like state, at the starting line or on the field, just before they hit or throw the ball. These professionals are all envisioning, in advance, what they want the outcome to be.
Can this process of visualization, work for you also in your every day professional and personal life? Let’s say you are traveling and would like to experience incredible food, clean rooms ready for your arrival, flights and luggage arriving on time, friendly and efficient service.
Can that really happen? The answer is…It sure can. Wayne Dyer, best-selling author of “The Power of Intention: Learning to Co-Create Your World Your Way” says that it is definitely possible to affect all the experiences in our lives. Try these suggested steps when planning your next trip, for example.
1. Think how you want to feel before, during and after your trip. (Since the energy you put out reflects on the outcome, this is the best place to start).
Do you want to feel rested? Relaxed? Unhurried? Full of energy? Joyful? Even visualize a sense of accomplishment that the meeting went well and the deal was approved and signed by all parties.
Really imagine the way you want to feel, as if it has already happened.
2. As you are going about making the reservations, packing your luggage and all the other activities leading up to the first day of your departure, continue to keep the vision of all the fun and successful interactions with others you are going to experience.
You can even imagine being a magnet to some of the most amazing people on your trip and see who you attract.
Investing the time to learn and use this process, is key to having great travel experiences.
Will it really work for you? Only if you try it. All I can say is… Check it out. You might like it.
P.S. This may be a new muscle and if at first, you don’t succeed…practice, practice, practice. Better yet, just like an athlete, you might even want to get yourself a Coach!
